If you’re a pastor in San Diego County, chances are you spend most of your week caring for other people — walking with families through grief, counseling couples through crisis, showing up for your congregation again and again. But who’s walking with you?

I’ve been a pastor in San Diego for over ten years. I’ve sat across from countless ministry leaders — lead pastors, associate pastors, youth directors, church planters — who were quietly falling apart while keeping everything together on the outside. They weren’t looking for weakness. They were looking for someone who understood.

That’s why I do what I do.

Why Pastors in San Diego Are Struggling in Silence

Ministry is one of the most demanding professions on earth — and one of the least supported. The expectations are enormous. The emotional weight is constant. And the professional culture of the church often makes it feel like asking for help is a sign of spiritual failure.

Pastors across San Diego County — from Chula Vista to Escondido, from National City to Santee — are carrying burdens that were never meant to be carried alone. And they’re doing it while smiling on Sunday morning.

Here’s what I hear most often from pastors who finally reach out:

  • “I feel completely alone, even though I’m surrounded by people.”
  • “I’ve lost my passion for ministry. I just go through the motions.”
  • “My marriage is suffering but I don’t feel like I can tell anyone.”
  • “I’m exhausted all the time and I don’t know how to stop.”
  • “I’m not sure I believe what I’m preaching anymore.”

If any of those sound familiar, you’re not broken. You’re burned out. And there’s a difference — one that matters deeply.

What Makes Pastoral Counseling Different

General counseling or therapy can be incredibly helpful. But pastoral counseling is different because it takes into account the unique world you live in — the ecclesial politics, the theological wrestling, the loss of identity that happens when ministry becomes your whole self, not just your calling.

As a pastor who has also been through the darkest valley personally — I lost my marriage, my position, and my sense of self all at once — I bring something to the table that a clinical therapist often can’t: I’ve been where you are. I understand what it means to preach on Sunday when everything in your life feels like it’s collapsing on Monday.

Pastoral counseling and coaching with me isn’t about getting fixed. It’s about being seen, being honest, and finding your way back to the life God actually intended for you.

Who I Work With

I work specifically with pastors and ministry leaders across San Diego County and beyond, including:

  • Lead pastors feeling isolated at the top
  • Associate or staff pastors navigating difficult church dynamics
  • Church planters under financial and relational pressure
  • Youth and children’s ministry leaders experiencing compassion fatigue
  • Ministry spouses carrying invisible weight
  • Pastors in vocational transition or who have recently left a church

If you’re in ministry and you’re struggling — whether it’s burnout, depression, anxiety, marriage strain, identity confusion, or simply a deep sense that something is wrong — this is a safe place to talk about it.

Counseling and Coaching for Pastors in San Diego County

I offer both pastoral counseling and certified life coaching for ministry leaders. While these are different modalities, both are grounded in faith, deeply confidential, and tailored to the specific pressures that come with pastoral life.

Sessions are available in-person in the East San Diego County area (Lakeside/El Cajon) or via Zoom for pastors throughout San Diego County and across Southern California.

Common areas we work through together:

  • Pastoral burnout and ministry exhaustion
  • Identity and calling — who are you apart from your title?
  • Marriage and family health in the context of ministry
  • Anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation
  • Church conflict and vocational transition
  • Spiritual dryness and faith deconstruction
  • Leadership development and healthy boundaries

A Word from Someone Who’s Been There

In 2019, I hit the lowest point of my life. My marriage ended after 20 years. I lost the ministry position I had built my identity around. I spent months couch-surfing and rebuilding from scratch at 43 years old. I know what it’s like to wonder if there’s anything left on the other side of collapse.

There is. And I wouldn’t trade the journey — because it made me into the coach and counselor I am today. I don’t work with pastors from a textbook. I work with them from the inside.

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock.” — Psalm 40:1-2
